There are situations in which we need to wash the clothes in a short period of time and such practice can cost you a small fortune.

As always in the real world, there are alternatives and when we talk about cashmere, there is another practical method of washing – do-it-yourself hand washing.

In order to perform hand washing you will need to use scentless dish soap or baby shampoo. In addition, you can also use a small quantity of detergent designed for delicate clothes.

The washing procedure is simple, all you need to do is to pour the baby shampoo or scentless soap in sink filled with lukewarm water.

Drying

You can use cold water and some mild stain remover. Apply the stain remover and wait until it goes inside the fabrics. You should never try to rub the remover.

After that, you should use cold water and mild detergent to remove the stain.

Finally, use the same drying procedure we have mentioned before.

Storing Cashmere

Storing is equally important for the look and quality of your cashmere products. People usually store these products during the summer period. The basic rule is to store them once you wash them. Make sure that they are completely dry and clean.

In addition, make sure that the drawers are clean too because insect residue, dust and dirt can damage cashmere.

Moths are one of the biggest threats when it comes to cashmere products.

It is always a good idea to use some kind of moth-repellent (preferably natural) in order to reduce this risk.

Some other tips on caring for cashmere products

Dry cleaning should be your only option when you have not washed your cashmere item for a long time and in case there are several stubborn stains on it. NEVER use a washing machine to wash your cashmere piece of clothing.

If you believe that ironing your cashmere sweater or other piece of clothing is necessary, never iron these items directly. Use some other piece of clothing on top as a protective layer.

Those who want to store their cashmere products in the right way can use colorless cardboard box. If you place cedar disks in these boxes you will increase the protection of your product (they keep the moths away). In addition, some people use lightweight fabric bags although they don’t provide such breathability like boxes. Of course, you need to keep the cashmere products away from direct sun exposure because they can lead to discoloration of the material.

When we talk about frequency, many experts recommend washing cashmere one or two times per season. It is smart to avoid the use of hangers because the item might lose its shape.
